‘Pay No Attention to that Man Behind the Curtain’? Think Again…
In the movie classic The Wizard Of Oz, Dorothy's dog Toto pulls back the curtain unveiling the "not so great and powerful" Oz. Up until this point in the story, Dorothy, her entourage and the citizens of The Emerald City, had been duped by this unseen, smoke and mirrors figure. But after the curtain was pulled back, his true character was revealed. This giant, green, talking head was not as scary, frightening, or formidable as first imagined. In fact, "that man behind the curtain" was just that, an ordinary man.
Nothing great. Nothing powerful about him. He was a phony. A lie. All that worry, anxiety, and fear for nothing. It was all a ruse, and they took the bait, hook, line and sinker. They were deceived, double-crossed, seduced, and the list goes on. They "got had.”
But the truth is, there really is someone behind the curtain who is powerful and a force that each one of us needs to be aware of every day of our lives. His name is Satan and he is real.
He is our enemy. He is a liar, deceiver, murderer, tempter and prince of this world, and he is very good at what he does. Very good.
But before I go any further, let's be clear and make no mistake about it, the Lord Jesus Christ is, always has been, and always will be, superior and greater than this enemy we face. Jesus Christ is (eternally changeless, always) the same yesterday and today and forever. (Hebrews 13:8 AMP)
Jesus says, "The thief comes only to steal, kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full." John 10:10 NIV
Since his fall, the angel Lucifer, has been wreaking havoc among mankind and continues to do so today. Whether he's trying to lure man away from God, destroy families, divide churches or bring down nations, Satan is going all out to ruin God's original plan for mankind. Sometimes he's straightforward and uses the in-your-face approach. He'll try to take you out quickly. Other times, he's crafty, slow, patient and calculating, applying the long-term tactic and trying to wear you down.
Either way, he is out there.
The Bible declares: "Be sober (well balanced and self-disciplined), be alert and cautious at all times. That enemy of yours, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion (fiercely hungry), seeking someone to devour.” 1 Peter 5:8 AMP
Because God has given man free will (choice), some join-up to be cooperating allies with the enemy whether they realize it is him or not. Technology today allows any (hidden or veiled) person, group, political party or nation to interject all types of misinformation for consumption. Whether it's true or not. This results in all sorts of personal, political, financial, and international turmoil. In America, our real enemy is not the super powers, rouge nations or terrorist militant groups, although they do pose an ever-present threat to our current way of life. The real enemy is the enemy of our souls.
That man behind the curtain is truly a puppet master.
This is where spiritual discernment for the believer becomes extremely important. Without this decision-making process, a person just doesn't know what truth is, who or what to believe, trust, or look to for answers. It is the perfect breeding ground for fear and an open door for the enemy to deceive and gain a stronghold in the life of an individual, a church or a nation.
The word of God says this about discernment: "Beloved, do not believe every spirit (speaking through a self-proclaimed prophet); instead test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets and teachers have gone out into the world." (1 John 4:1 AMP)
We are not robots; we are human. We do have a choice. And if you look back at history, sometimes it's scary the decisions humans have made and are currently making.
In Chip Ingram's book, The Invisible War, he says this: "We all make choices. Sometimes the consequences are bad. We can't blame all difficulties on hostile acts of the enemy. We live in a fallen world, and bad things happen. Not everything occurs because of demonic schemes. But everything can be exploited by demonic forces. C.S. Lewis said the danger is to put either way too much emphasis on Satan and demons or way too little. For most people today, it's way too little."
Do your due diligence, test the spirits.
That man behind the curtain is real. His strategy is calculated and it has not changed since he was cast out of heaven, nor will it change until the final battle when he is defeated and he and his followers are thrown into the lake of fire.
The Bible is emphatic about the reality of the invisible world. Paul writes in Ephesians: "For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places." Ephesians 6:12 NLT
So what should we do?
First, realize the battle has already been won, on the cross at Calvary 2,000 years ago. Jesus is the victor and that will not change.
Second, we need to stay alert. A personal and daily relationship with Jesus Christ is critical. Not just spending time with Him so you can check it off your list, but a genuine, sincere time of fellowshipping with Him, studying His Word and interceding for others. Listen for His voice and obey.
"But first and most importantly seek (aim at, strive after) His kingdom and His righteousness (His way of doing and being right - the attitude and character of God), and all these things will be given to you also." Matthew 6:33 AMP
Finally...rejoice! He has risen!
Bible Verse of the Day: “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33 NIV
